February Favourites

Favourite Book – Hold Back The Stars

Just loved this book way too much… it’s romantic, scientific, futuristic and beautifully written.

A little reminder of what I’d said about it in my review:

This story touched my heart. I didn’t intentionally pick it up to read during the Valentine’s Day Week but boy, oh boy, I’m glad I did.

This is the tale of two soul mates that find themselves out in space alone, following the crash of their spaceship. Carys and Max have 90 minutes of oxygen left.

Favourite Movie – The Meddler

FullSizeRender 3.jpg

So… it turns out I only watched two movies in February: The Meddler and Zootropolis (again!!). I’m not gonna lie by putting The Meddler as my favourite, it doesn’t mean it was THAT great but when you only watch two movies and one has already featured in your Favourites…! It’s all about a daughter-mother relationship. When the father/husband passes away, the mother decides to put all of her effort into a daughter… the issue? Her daughter is all grown up AND doesn’t want her mum around. She’s a lovely mum who helps many people in the community and I couldn’t help but fall in love with her. It’s a good movie to watch in the week when you just want to chill and paint your nails, but it’s not Saturday night worthy.

Favourite TV Show – Awkward

FullSizeRender 2.jpg

This has been my guilty little please over the past few weeks. I have been binge watching this on weeknights and have already made it to Season 4! I’m embarrassed by how much I have been enjoying this show. It’s an American show set in a high school. It starts with the main character Jenna receiving a rather nasty letter and whilst she’s reading it she slips and falls whilst holding an open bottle of painkillers… AWKWARDLY everyone thinks she was attempting to take her life. So she goes from being a quiet nobody to the centre of the gossip world. She’s also a blogger!! The characters are so melodramatic, twisted and ridiculous… that when I come to the end of an episode I automatically click onto the next episode. I’m so hooked! I’m currently watching episode 9 (season 4) and am OUTRAGED by what some twisted girl has done at the end of episode 8. If any of you out there have watched this, comment below!

Favourite New Purchase – Jo Malone Leather and Artemisia

FullSizeRender.jpg

I bought this as a little treat for myself and I’ve been wearing it everyday since! It’s not the usual scent that I go for (my favourite is Blackberry and Bay) but I’ve really been loving how it smells on me.

Favourite Memory – Visit to Hatchlands Park

I was struggling to decide on what my favourite memory was from this month. Loads has been going on! I got an award in work which was special. I’m on my second month of invisalign braces on the mission to get perfect teeth for my wedding and the dentist was pleased with my progress. I’ve been going on some fabulous walks with my fiancé at the weekends. I went for a BRILL shopping trip in Westfields and luck was on my side when I entered American Eagle… jeans, four new t-shirts and new pjs!!

Anywhooooo I think one of my favourite walks was last weekend at Hatchlands Park. There was an adorable Sylvanian families walk (for kids!!) where you had to spot them in the trees and there was also a cute woodland area (also for kids!!)… I enjoyed both!

Favourite Product – Max Factor CC Corrects Dark Spots Light

FullSizeRender 4.jpg

I bought this on a whim after I’d heard how well pink corrects dark circles and boy, oh boy do I have them under my eyes! I put this under my eyes at the same time as dotting my foundation around my face, I then blend it all with the Clinique Buff Brush and it seems to do a better job at covering my dark circles than when I just use foundation!

Until next time, Chloé x

January Favourites

Just a quick favourites update as I’m finding blogging a bit of a chore lately…

Favourite Book – Station Eleven

It was such a nice change to enjoy a post-apocalyptic plot!

Favourite Movie – My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2

It was such a feel good movie and definitely as good as the first! It may have helped that I had home baked apple and toffee cookies to nibble on whilst I watched it…

Favourite TV Show – Death in Paradise

Oh. How this Caribbean detective show brightens up the cold January days!

Favourite New Purchase – New Yellow Wallet

Soooo yellow is my fave colour… when I spotted a wallet that was bright yellow, I couldn’t resist it! Every time I look in my black bag, it’s like there’s a sun shining up at me!

Favourite Memory – Binge watching Lost

I have been obsessed with Lost the past few weeks and watching it with my fiancé, sharing reactions, staying up late and discussing plot twists has been such a nice way to relax!

Favourite Product – Clinique Anti-Blemish 3 step skin care

By god does this stuff work! I suffer from spots around my t-zone and have struggled to find something that would actually prevent me from getting anymore. My mum bought me the products as a Christmas present and I’ve been using them ever since…. and they work! I’ve had only one spot in the last 4 weeks which is a huge improvement!

Let me know if you’d be interested in a blog post on my skin care routine!

Until next time, Chloé x

December Favourites

Bye bye 2016, hello 2017

Favourite Book – The Shadow Sister

Has to be by far my favourite book of December. I’m always blown away by the detail that Riley manages to fit into her books, you truly feel like you’re in the characters’ world.

Favourite Movie – Zootropolis

Literally the best animation movie out there… in my opinion! The characters are incredibly likeable and the plot is smart and witty. This is a movie for all ages… even my dad likes it!

Favourite TV Show – Strictly Come Dancing 💃🏻🕺🏻

So strictly ended mid December and although the person I voted for didn’t win, it’s still one of my favourite shows on tv. I’ve watched it religiously each week with a takeaway! I love the dancing, the sparkles and the witty remarks from the judges. I’m going to miss Len a lot… a Seven or a Ten always sounds better from him! I wonder who they’ll replace him with… I think Anton would be a fabulous judge but would he want to give up the dancing each week?!

Favourite New Purchase – The White Company Candles

Ok so this purchase wasn’t for myself… it was a Christmas present for my mum. I absolutely fell in love with the Winter Fruits Botanical candle set by The White Company; the packaging, the smells and the size of the candles are perfect 👌🏼

Favourite Memory – CHRISTMAS MORNING!! 🎅🏼🎄🥂

I love Christmas and have been counting down like an excitable kid all month. Christmas morning is my favourite morning of the whole year, it’s the only day I’ll wake up ridiculously early and not feel sleepy! I love watching everyone open the presents I got them and of course, I love opening presents also!! This year, my fiancé got me a puzzle to keep me entertained on Christmas Day… it turned out that my whole family were entertained by it. It was finally finished on Boxing Day… after a hunt for the last piece!

Favourite Product – Jo Malone Advent Calendar

I was lucky enough to get a Jo Malone Advent Calendar this year and it’s been incredible! I’m in love with the mini perfumes which are perfect for my bag, the candles smell incredible (my fave was peony & blush suede and the other mini products are great for travelling.

Until next time, Chloé x

November Favourites

It’s nearly Christmas aaaaaaaahhhh! I am far too excited!!!! Anywho, I spent most of November getting ready for December – I bought Chris a Beer Advent calendar, some Christmas bedding, some Christmas jumpers… It’s fair to say I’m a Christmas addict!

Favourite Book – The Whistler

How could I not pick a Grisham book as my favourite! He is by far the best thriller writer out there. The Whistler focuses on the story to uncover evidence on a sleazy judge who is linked to money laundering and crime after ‘the whistler’ speaks out

Favourite Movie – Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

I have been looking forward to this movie since I heard they were to film it. As many of you know, I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan…. so this was a ‘must see’. Although I did find it a little strange that he didn’t just apparate to New York and back to London?

Favourite TV Show – Supervet

It’s back onnnnn!! I love this show, I am always amazed what Noel manages to do to help the animals. I find it incredible how far technology has advanced in the past ten years in the veterinary world.

Although… I have been avidly watching The Missing this series – the finale was FAB.

Favourite New Purchase – Christmas Bedding

Last year, I really wanted christmas bedding but couldn’t find any that I liked – this year was different! I was blown away by the choice in Asda. I managed to get a king size set for £14 and a cute pillow to match it for £5, not only is it great value – it looks the part and doesn’t require any ironing!!

Favourite Memory – Strolling the streets of Bath

During November, we set off on a short break to the Cotswolds and the Malvern Hills with Brian (the dog) – I booked the trip through PetsPyjamas and was thoroughly impressed by their selection of hotels, customer service and extra touches they provide – you receive a box of goodies for your dog on arrival at the hotel and I also received a personalised dog blanket (an extra offer at the time)… anyway I digress… whilst we were in the Cotswolds we went on a road trip down to Bath for a dander around. I fell in love with the architecture, the quaint shops, the restaurants and the general vibe of the city… I could sooo live there!

Oh and there are some great ‘food’ memories from the trip too…

Favourite Product – Toffee Nut Latte from Starbucks

Not much to say about this one other than I love the seasonal drinks and the red cups!

I’ll leave you with this cutie

October Favourites

Favourite Book – Daisy in Chains

My first answer was The Miniaturist but after scrolling though my posts, I realised the book that stood out the most was Daisy in Chains. It was dark, twisted and kept you guessing until the final pages!

Favourite Movie – Doctor Strange

Doctor Strange is not your typical Marvel movie but that didn’t stop me from loving it. Benedict Cumberbatch is the perfect addition to the Marvel hero list and I particularly enjoyed the magical aspects of the movie.

Favourite TV Show – The Missing

This dark and complex thriller show is back for a second series on the BBC. This time there’s a twist… the girl has been found. I’m absolutely hooked on this show, it’s addictive because the plot deepens each episode and the cliffhangers are nail bitingly good.

Favourite New Purchase – MAC Cosmetics Highlighter

This was tricky as I haven’t been purchasing much this month as my birthday was coming up and then I remembered my trip to the MAC Cosmetics counter…! I’m trying to be a bit more adventurous with my make up and so I invested in a highlighter to emphasise my eyebrows, nose and cheeks…. I’m thoroughly impressed with it but mostly I’m obsessed with how cute it looks ⬇️

screen-shot-2016-11-01-at-20-06-04

Favourite Memory – Afternoon Tea on my Birthday

I celebrated my birthday at the end of October and decided to spend the day munching on afternoon tea with my favourite people. It was a delicious experience and truly relaxing!

Favourite Product – Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic

My skin routine consists of three Liz Earle products: cleanse and polish hot cloth cleanser, instant boost skin tonic and skin repair moisturiser. About six weeks ago I ran out of the tonic and being rather lazy decided I’d just skip it out of my routine…BIG MISTAKE… my face objected to the decision within days and I was left with blotchy and spotty skin… DISASTER!! My skin routine has now been restored and my face is feeling much smoother, who knew that a tonic could make so much difference?!?

Until next time, Chloé x

September Favourites

I can not believe it’s October already!!! I’m sad to see summer go but I’m excited by all the fantastic things that Autumn and Winter bring…. Halloween, Christmas, excuses to eat ample amounts of chocolate, the lights, the warm hats and scarves…. it’s not all bad!!

On to my favourites….

Favourite Book – The Forgetting Time

unknown

Of all the fantastic books I’ve read this month, this by far has been my favourite. I just loved the quirkiness of it all with the factual research being stitched in to an already carefully thought out plot.

Favourite Movie – Bridget Jones’s Baby

What a laugh I had watching this with my mum, the whole audience was laughing for 70% of the movie!! It’s definitely more girly than the last two so I was quite glad I didn’t drag my fiancée or dad to the cinema but it’s packed full of ‘Bridget moments’ and has McDreamy from Grey’s Anatomy so one couldn’t complain!

Favourite TV Show – Agatha Raisin

Bake off is still THE highlight of my week but I’ve been searching for something that would be as funny and non-complicated as Ugly Betty and I stumbled upon Agatha Raisin. It’s a murder solving show based on the book series with a lightness and jovial atmosphere plus coincidently it’s got Christina from UB in it! Hooray!

Favourite New Purchase – Papergang Subscription

unknown-2

I’ve finally entered the subscription box world and of course I had to start with stationery. I’ve been obsessed with stationery since before I can remember, as a kid I used to save up my pocket money so I could buy scented gel pens, pencil cases and notebooks … as I progressed into teenager years my obsession turned to sticky notes, diaries and folders … and now?! Well I haven’t changed much! So when this lovely box ended up in my hands I was incredible excited! The cards and wrapping paper are of course very practical but what caught my attention were the sticky notes; as they’ll be a fun way to cheer people up in work, and the planner is fantastic as it’s not date set so I can start it whenever I want and if I want to quit it for a few weeks that’s ok too!

Favourite Memory – Being on Holiday

img_7737

I know this is a rather long memory but if I look back on what’s been good this month, having a holiday was just what I needed. If you want specifics of why I loved the holiday check out my 10 Awesome Moments in Crete

Favourite Product – Molton Brown Bursting Caju and Lime Bath and Shower Gel

It’s on the pricey side but my God does it smell incredible! I come out the shower feeling clean and smelling devine (is if I do say so myself). The tiny blue and green beads look aesthetically pleasing but they also feel lovely as they burst on your skin.

Until next time, Chloé x

August Favourites

This year has flown by… I can’t believe it’s the end of August already!! I feel like this month has gone by the quickest and trying to pick my favourites has been a difficult task as I haven’t been reading as much, watching as much or buying as much!

Favourite Book – The Watchmaker of Filigree Street

Looking back on the books I’ve read this month; sadly there hasn’t been as many as usual, I would have to say that my favourite has been The Watchmaker of Filigree Street – it was incredibly quirky and I fell in love with the mechanical octopus, Katsu

Favourite Movie – The Imitation Game

After reading the Amber Shadows by Lucy Ribchester, I’ve been fascinated by the goings on at Bletchley Park during the Second World War. I spotted the Imitation Game on Channel 4 and discovered what an incredibly inspiring movie it is. It’s quite hard to comprehend how Turing’s invention changed not only the war but the future of computer technology. I found the movie to be gripping and honest, and it made me reflect on all of the outstanding geniuses that we have in this world.

Favourite TV Show – BAKE OFF!

Hoorah it’s that time of year when the Great British Bake Off graces our screens…. And I’m soooo happy it’s back! In fact, it’s already got me in the baking mood – I recently made the Salted Nutella Cookies from the Tanya Bakes cookbook….. Mmmmmm delish!

Favourite New Purchase – Red Tunic Dress

I bought the most fantastic dress from M&S, which has been a saviour for trekking into work on the hot, humid days we’ve had this month! I’m in love with the fabric and I think it will be great all year round

Favourite Memory – Red Bull Air Show

I went to the Red Bull Air Show with Chris; my fiancé, and was blown away by the talent. It was incredible to be so close to the planes and to see how effortless the pilot’s made the turns look as they turned through the pylons.

Favourite Product – Aloe Vera Vaseline

My lips have been getting increasingly dry in this hot weather and so I’ve been putting Vaseline on every night… the Aloe Vera scented one is my favourite!

Until next time, Chloé x

P.S. Just in case you were wondering what I’d be reading in September here’s my READ PILE…

July Favourites

Another month has flown by and it’s time to reflect on what my favourite things have been the last month.
Before I get stuck into the usual categories, I’m going to take a moment to comment on my happiness towards the beautiful weather we’ve had the past month… it has been fantastic! I’ve been able to sunbathe, have picnics outside, walk home from the station without being drenched and have the perfect excuse to divulge in an ice cream!

Favourite Book – The Muse

I really reallllyy enjoyed this book, in fact I was so disappointed when it ended! Jessie Burton is a fantastic author, she’s perfected the nack of transporting you into this incredible world of love, drama and secrets

Favourite Movie – Star Trek Beyond

This is an easy one because I saw it only yesterday, the new Star Trek movie. I was worried it wouldn’t live up to the previous two (new ones not the old classics!) but it so did! Two hours flew by as I watched the Enterprise crew save the day. I was also pleasantly surprised to find out that Simon Pegg was one of the writers, he’s definitely jumped up in my books!

Favourite TV Show – Ugly Betty

I am OBSESSED with Ugly Betty right now. I’ve binge watched season 1 and 2 and am making quick work of season 3. It’s such an easy show to watch: it’s got catchy background music, it’s light hearted and it’s so over the top you can’t help but laugh.

Favourite New Purchase – M&S Cool bag

Kind of sad… but one day I went shopping without my reusable bags and had to buy a new one, I came across a cool bag in M&S that has LONG handles… it put my other bags to shame… so I strutted out feeling ultra cool with my shopping hanging off my shoulder!

Favourite Memory – Reading with Brian

The older my dog gets, the more affectionate he’s become. Lately, he’s taken to cuddling up to me when I read my book…. it’s just too adorable and no matter how bad my day has been, this instantly calms me!

Screen Shot 2016-08-01 at 19.08.30

and a new one…. Favourite Product – Jo Malone’s Blackberry and Bay perfume

I am having a love affair with the Jo Malone’s Blackberry and Bay perfume… it just smells so incredible!

Until next time, Chloé x

P.S. Just in case you were wondering what I’d be reading in August here’s my READ PILE… I’m currently reading After You by Jojo Moyes

June Favourites – 2016

So I thought I would jump on the bandwagon and start a blog post series each month that tracks some of my favourites! I think it must be so hard to just randomly pick all of the things that you have been loving each month so I thought I would give myself some structure by having the following few categories:

  • Favourite Book
  • Favourite Movie
  • Favourite TV Show
  • Favourite New Purchase
  • Favourite Memory

Although don’t be surprised if you see some random favourites slipping in!

Right let’s start and I’ll be keeping these short and sweet!
Favourite Book – The Storm Sister

I said it was my favourite book so far of 2016… and it still is, I haven’t read a book this complex and fascinating in a long time… that reminds me I need to order the first one!!

Favourite Movie – Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

Don’t judge… It’s my ‘go to’ movie when I want to snuggle on the sofa and relax

Favourite TV Show – Madam Secretary

It’s a toss up between Madam Secretary, Game of Thrones and Limitless… I think I’ll have to go for Madam Secretary… it’s such an easy show to watch and I love that it’s a mix between the serious stuff and the humorous family life! I found the Game of Thrones final quite underwhelming..!

Favourite New Purchase – My new ghd marine allure straighteners

I’ve always used my mum’s straighteners but after finding them in the airport at a reasonably price I couldn’t resist! I love the colour of these straighteners – they’re so summery!

Favourite Memory – I got engaged!

Whilst I was over in Budapest, my boyfriend (now fiancé) got down on one knee in the gardens of the Budapest parliament building…. it was such a surprise, I was in so much shock… of course I said YES!!!!
